What is Hypnosis? There are a lot of myths surrounding hypnosis that have been made popular by stage hypnotists. The facts about hypnosis however have been developed over many years by many studies that have been carefully scrutinized and found to be true.
The first and most important fact about hypnosis is that you are in total control. Despite the very common fear that while in a hypnotic trance you are under the control or will of the hypnotist, it has been shown that you will come immediately out of the hypnotic trance if the hypnotist suggests something you would not want to do. Unless you want to cluck like a chicken or act like a zombie no matter how good the hypnotist may be you simply cannot be made to do anything you don’t want to do. If you felt a sudden urge to go to the bathroom while you were in a hypnotic trance you would come out of trance and be ready to go to the bathroom. You are in complete control.
The most exciting fact about hypnosis is how it works as a powerful tool to bring about the personal changes you want to make. Many people have heard the concept of the conscious mind and the unconscious mind. We encounter so many incoming messages every second that if we had to use our conscious mind to deal with all those messages we simply would not be able to function. Think about driving a car. Our conscious mind is concerned about the other cars and the traffic conditions. Plus we may be talking to our passengers. However we are also driving the car, sitting on the seat and following a well known route home. The driving itself the knowing we are sitting appropriately in the seat and getting home successfully is all handled by the unconscious mind. The unconscious mind takes care of all the things we do automatically so that we can pay attention to the new and messages that come to our conscious mind.
We know through many studies that the unconscious mind acts to protect us, however sometimes that protection may lead to unwanted behaviors. Hypnosis is so effective in addressing these unwanted automatic behaviors because the hypnotic trance allows us to quiet the conscious mind and obtain direct access to the unconscious mind. By using your words, which I will help you to put together in the most effective way, we can inform the unconscious mind of the behaviors that we do not want and tell the unconscious mind how we can make the changes we want. Remember you are in complete control and it is your unconscious mind so we will be most effective if we use your words to make the changes you want to make.
